  Myanmar (with Overnight River Cruise) & Chiangmai Program 16 Days / 15 Nights

DAY 1. On arrival at BANGKOK Airport you will be met by your Wanna Tours Guide and transferred to The Peninsula Bangkok Hotel, where your reservation is for the next 4 Nights and includes Breakfast. En route to the Hotel, your Guide will give you an introduction to Thailand and your Program. (Specific aspects of your Sightseeing, etc. can also be discussed with your Guide).

DAY 2. This morning is at your leisure in the Hotel (to get over jet lag, etc.) or available for local sightseeing. This afternoon we have a personal visit to the unique (and private) Prasart Museum with it's beautiful traditional design, extensive tropical gardens and unusual collection of classical Thai & Asian antiques.

DAY 3. This morning we travel by Private Boat through the Klongs (Canals) of Thonburi where we get an insight to why Bangkok was once known as "the Venice of the East", we also call in to see the Royal Barge Museum and Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn). After lunch at a local restaurant we visit Bangkok's most revered site - The Grand Palace and Temple of the Emerald Buddha. We can also visit Wat Pho, one of Bangkok's oldest and largest Temple complexes, among the many sites of interest here is the Viharn which is home to a 46 meter Reclining Buddha, before returning to the Hotel.

DAY 4. Leaving the Hotel early we drive South of Bangkok through the countryside passing Palm Plantations and Salt Fields to Damnoen Saduak, to visit Thailand's most impressive floating market. Here we travel by small boat around the quiet waterways and the bustle of the main floating market. After looking around the market we drive back to Bangkok, taking lunch at a local restaurant en route.

This afternoon is at your leisure or available for local sightseeing (Again specific aspects of your Sightseeing, etc. can be discussed with your Guide) a possible suggestion would be to see Jim Thompson's House, the classic Thai-style former home of a Pioneer of the Thai Silk Industry  (to your interest, as time and energy permits !) before returning to the Hotel.

DAY 5. After Breakfast and Check out we transfer to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport for your Lunchtime flight to Yangon. On arrival at Yangon Airport you will be met by our Representative Agent and transferred to The Strand Hotel. Your reservation here is for the next 2 Nights and includes Breakfast.

In the afternoon, we visit Kandawgyi (Royal) Lake to take photographs over the lake towards Shwedagon, then take an extended visit to Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the world’s most spectacular religious monuments. The golden dome of the Shwedagon Pagoda rises 98 meters above its base and is covered with 60 tons of pure gold. We will stay until sunset, before returning to the Hotel.

DAY 6. Today we have a full day to explore the Sights of Yangon. We can visit Botathaung Pagoda, located close to Yangon River and said to contain Buddha relics. Drive through the colonial style buildings downtown, the Chinatown area and the Indian quarter. We also visit Sule Pagoda with its golden Chedi, and a trip to Bogyoke (Scott) Market gives you the opportunity to see Myanmar's wide range of handicrafts.  After Lunch at Green Elephant Restaurant, this afternoon we visit Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda to see a huge reclining Buddha image and the newly renovated National Museum (if open), home to the Lion's Throne and can also visit Yangon's unique Glass Factory, which has changed very little over the years. See skilled craftsmen hand-blowing glass and creating original glassware which is sold to hotels and restaurants all over Myanmar.

DAY 7. After an early Breakfast in your Room at the hotel, we check out and transfer to Yangon Airport for the direct early morning flight to Mandalay. From the airport, we start your morning Mandalay sightseeing with a visit to the Old U Bein teak Bridge, built in 1851 at the time when Amarapura was the royal capital. From here we continue to Mandalay’s most important Temple Mahamuni Pagoda with its spectacular Buddha image covered with thick layers of gold leaves. We also stop to see gold leaf being made by beating Golden into wafer thin pieces, before we transfer to the Sedona Hotel, Mandalay, where your reservation is for the next 2 nights in a Deluxe Room and includes breakfast.

This afternoon is at your leisure in the Hotel (or available for local sightseeing), in the late afternoon we can enjoy spectacular views at sunset from Mandalay Hill, where there are interesting glass-studded temples.

DAY 8. After Breakfast at hotel, we have a Private Boat trip on the Ayeyarwaddy River to Mingun about 11 km  upriver from Mandalay. The boat trip (approx. 1 hour river trip) is interesting because you see all types of wooden boats and bamboo rafts, carrying goods up and down the river. Here we visit the Mingun Bell, weighting 87 tons and being the world’s largest intact bronze bell. Continue to the beautiful Hsinbyume Paya and the unfinished Mingun Paya (built with the intention of being the world’s biggest pagoda).

On our return to Mandalay, after lunch we visit to Shwenandaw Monastery, an ancient wooden building with intricate carvings, which was once King Mindon's home, and finally see the 'world’s largest book', being the Buddhist Scriptures inscribed on marble slabs, at Kuthodaw Pagoda, before returning to the Hotel.

DAY 9.
(Currently Thursdays only, RV Paukan)

After Breakfast & Check out, we  transfer to the Sagaing jetty in order to board RV Paukan for the down-river overnight cruise from Mandalay. We board at 10.00am and have a welcome cocktail on Board, departure is at 10.30am and as we cast off we can enjoy magnificent views across to Sagaing Hill and then sail under Ava Bridge. Buffet lunch on board. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon on board, sailing down the picturesque Ayeyarwady River.

Later  in the afternoon we stop at Yandabo, a village specialize in Pot-Making, where the peace treaty of the First Anglo-Burmese war was signed on Feb. 24, 1826. day, As evening falls, we have a great view of magnificent sunset, from the deck, after which dinner is served. We moor on the banks of the river near to the village of Shwe Nann Tint. and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep on boardd.

DAY 10. This morning we have a full Buffet breakfast on board. While we continue sailing down the Ayeyarwady River towards Bagan.  Early morning, (as time permits) we visit as another typical small river village.  We should arrive in Bagan around 9.00am and after disembarking from the River Cruiser, we transfer to Thiripyitsaya Sakura Hotel, where you reservation is for the tonight in a River View Suite and includes Breakfast.  

This afternoon, we commence our sightseeing with visit to Ananda Temple with four huge standing-Buddha images and numerous seated figures arranged around the interior gallery and a lacquer craftsman's workshop in nearby Myinkaba village. We then visit to Manuha Temple, built in Mon style in 1059, Nanbaya Temple, a unique sandstone monument that is said to have been the palace of King Manuha, and Myingaba Gu Byaukgyi Temple (under the protection of UNESCO), noted for its ancient mural paintings.

Late afternoon, we transfer to Shwesandaw Pagoda to enjoy sunset in the vicinity of Bagan's ancient monuments.

DAY 11. After Breakfast, we have a visit to a local market and a diverse selection of the most important pagodas and temples such as Shwezigon Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century, see 13th Century frescoes adorning the corridors of Kyansittha 'Cave' Temple.  We can continue to Gubyaukgyi (Wetkyi Inn village), another 'cave' temple with fine frescoes of the 'Jataka Tales'. Next stop is Htilominlo, the last Bamar style temple built in Bagan, with old murals and friezes and Shwegugyi – a small but elegant temple with fine stucco carvings. After lunch we return to the Hotel where the afternoon is at your leisure or available to visit more of the Local Sites until we transfer to Bagan Airport for your direct Evening flight to Yangon.

On arrival at Yangon Airport, we once again return to the The Strand Hotel where your reservation is for tonight and includes Breakfast.  This evening we have a farewell Dinner at Le Planteur– the finest European restaurant in town – specializing the French-Indochine menu.

DAY 12.
After Breakfast & check out from the Hotel we transfer to Yangon International Airport for your Direct flight to Chiangmai (Currently 6T012. 12.00pm>13.40pm – as available – If not we would need to connect through Bangkok). On arrival at CHIANGMAI Airport we transfer to The Four Seasons Resort Chiangmai, where your reservation here is for the next 4 nights and includes Breakfast. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure in the Resort.

DAY 13. Today we drive North to the Chiang Dao Elephant Camp. On arrival we will see the Elephants bathing in the river after which there is an interesting demonstration of training and working Elephants. We then take an Elephant Ride through the "jungle" to a Lisu Hill Tribe Village (approx. 45 minutes). After a look around the Village to see the Hill Tribes way of life, we return by Elephant, or have the option for a short walk back to the Elephant Camp, where we have a gentle trip down-river on a Bamboo Raft (approx. 45 minutes).

We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant and then drive to the Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens for a look around these impressive Gardens, which have been compared by experts to the famous Kew Gardens in London and we can also call in to see a local Orchid Garden before returning to the Hotel.

DAY 14. Special Early Morning Experince
This morning we arrive early at the foot of Doi Suthep we can make merit by giving Alms (some food & drink, etc.) to the local Monks from Wat Sri Soda. This is an amazing and moving site with usually hundreds of Saffron Robed Monks walking out of the Temple.

After this we continue with a drive up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep,the most venerated Temple in Chiangmai, situated on the hill-side some 3000 ft. above the City in the Doi Pui National Park. On the way up the mountain we stop for a short coffee break before visiting The Temple itself (before all the crowds arrive !!). Here we can climb the 306 stairs, to reach the Temple which encloses a large traditional, "Lanna" style Chedi covered with gold plates (A small mountain Tram is also available if the stairs are too much effort !!) From the Temple Grounds there are also panoramic views over Chiangmai and the surrounding area.

During the rest of the day we can spend in and around Chiangmai City, again specific interests and details can be discussed with your Guide, but could include visiting some of the various Traditional Local Handicrafts & Craft villages that Chiangmai is renowned for or other Cultural & Historical sights to your interest.(Again specific aspects of your Sightseeing, etc. can also be discussed with your Guide).

DAY 15. Today is at your leisure in the Resort - Possibly Cooking School or Spa Treatments, etc. or available for local sightseeing (Again specific details, etc.. can be discussed with your Guide)..

DAY 16. After Breakfast and check out from the resort, we transfer you to Chiangmai Airport for your onward flight.

 


This is an EXAMPLE of the type of Private Program that we can offer – While this can be booked directly as it is (and would be an very comprehensive and interesting Trip for your Clients to get an excellent insight to the History, People, Beautiful Scenery and Unique Culture of Thailand & Myanmar), it could also be used as Guideline to help you prepare an individual Program that we can arrange and finalize for your Clients.

Please remember, the very nature of these private trips makes them quite flexible and wherever possible we do try to cater directly to your Clients interests.

Specific costs will vary dependent on Dates of Travel, International Arrival & Departure Flight Times, Number of Clients in the Party, Availability of Hotel Accommodation & Room Category, etc. and for this particular Program would generally Include.
