12 October 2005.

Greetings from Sunny Chiangmai

It’s been a while since our last news update, but apart from a very welcome and relaxing Vacation to Australia & New Zealand for us – since our return we have been busy “Out & About”,…..

Anantara Resort & Spa Golden Triangle
As we mentioned to you some time ago, The Anantara Resort & Spa at the Golden Triangle is making inroads to become a Virtuoso Property – and we recently were involved with a Fam Trip organized by them, in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Airways International, to give some Virtuoso Agents a chance to experience this unique Property (as well as our own Services !!). We will keep you updated on their Progress..

Their current refurbishment project is well under way, which will eventually see all their Superior Rooms being upgraded to Deluxe Room standards as well as adding 7 additional Anantara Suites, bringing the full compliment of luxurious suites to 20.

They have advised us that completion of this project is still scheduled for late November, 2005 and to ensure the privacy and comfort of guests, all refurbishing will be confined to the Mae Sai Wing, allowing the Chiang Saen Wing to be unaffected by any refurbishing activity.

Maison Souvannaphoum Hotel, Luang Prabang Laos
We have also just had a brief visit to Luang Prabang in Laos to check out the Maison Souvannaphoum Hotel. This boutique luxury Hotel, was a former residence of Prince Souvannaphouma in the 1960s and 70s and has now been completely renovated by Angsana Resorts (Part of the Banyan Tree Group). After our most wonderful & relaxing stay there (also having has just won the Cond? Nast award for best new Boutique Hotel !), we will certainly be adding this Property to our Luang Prabang Programs, although with only 24 Rooms & Suites, early bookings are going to be a must…. For more details check out their website at: http://www.coloursofangsana.com/souvannaphoum/

New Bangkok International Airport (Suvarnabhumi Airport)
Far be it from me to make comments & predictions when the New Bangkok International Airport will really open…. But the following article in Bangkok Post makes for some entertaining reading !! … http://www.bangkokpost.com/en/061005_Horizons/06Oct2005_hori06.php

We will keep you advised as soon as we have any further (reliable !) information on this and of course, when it does happen, we will have to review Programs and Costs, etc. to take this into consideration

Thai Airways International Non-Stop Flights : New York <> Bangkok – Now Daily
Further to the launch of Thai Airways International’s non-stop flights between Bangkok & New York in May this year, utilizing the new super long-range Airbus A340-500 jet liners. Thai Airways International has announced that W.E.F. 31 October this will become a DAILY Service.
http://www.thaiair.com/About_Thai/Newsroom/Press_Release/Press_Year_2005/press0905-wu308.htm

So now with the added convenience of just one, 17 hour non-stop flight and the new concept of Royal Silk Class, Premium Economy Class, and Economy Class, this can only make visiting Thailand more of a pleasure with less effort !!.

And finally.. Virtuoso Symposium Singapore in March 2006
As you will shortly see (Hopefully) on the Virtuoso Net, we will be offering a “set” Pre & Post ChiangmaiProgram, in Conjunction with a special rate provided by Four Seasons Resort Chiangmai.

Provisional Nett Costs for the Program indicated below would be dependent on the Final Numbers in the Group and work out as:
For Group Size of 4-10 Clients : US$950. Per Person
    (Based on Sharing Twin/Double Suite)
For Group Size of 11-24 Clients : US$880. Per Person
    (Based on Sharing Twin/Double Suite)
With the Single Room Supplement : US$510.

These costs would include:

Private Airport>Resort>Airport Transfers in Chiangmai, (based on Single Group Arrival & Departure**). 13 & 16 March or 22 & 25 March.
Private Touring, Transportation, Entrance Fees, etc. as indicated with Qualified, English-speaking Guides and Road Transportation by private air-conditioned vehicles in Northern Thailand. Services commence on arrival at Chiangmai Airport on 13 or 22 March and Conclude on departure from Chiangmai Airport on 16 or 25 March.
3 Nights (Room Only) at The Four Seasons Resort Chiangmai 13-16 March or 22-25 March
Lunch taken at local restaurant 14-15 March or 23-24 March

Principal Exclusions.

Air Tickets & Airport Taxes
Airline Fuel & Insurance Surcharges at time of Check-in (as applicable)
Hotel "Extra" Accounts.
Gratuities (Guides & Drivers).
Other Meals & Items not indicated in the program

Booking.
Since we are limiting these Programs to a Maximum of 24 per trip, we would recommend early booking to avoid any disappointment, and we would need the following information in order to proceed with a booking:
Full Flight Details & Dates of Arrival & Departure Flights (Chiangmai).
Full Name (as per passport) & Agency.
Rooming Requirements (Single / Twin )

Air Tickets
As you would need to fly from Singapore to Chiangmai (and return), for this Program – and as we are not an Air Ticketing Agent, it would certainly prove more economical for you to book your own Air Tickets for this sector, either through your own CRS, on-line or possibly in conjunction with your International Tickets from the US.
We have therefore NOT included any Air Tickets or Air Ticketing arrangements in our Costs.

This morning we have a trip to the Northern Elephant Training Center. After a look around the Village, we return by Elephant, or have the option for a short walk back to the Elephant Camp. During the rest of the day we can also have a gentle trip down-river on a Bamboo Raft (approx. 45 minutes), we will have a Local Lunch and can visit the nearby Orchid & Botanical Gardens before returning to the Resort in the late afternoon.

This morning we leave the Resort early and take a short drive to the foot of Doi Suthep, where you can take part in a merit making ceremony by giving Alms (some food & drink, etc.) to the local Monks from Wat Sri Soda. This is an amazing and moving site with usually hundreds of Saffron Robed Monks walking out of the Temple. After this we then drive up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the most venerated Temple in Chiangmai, situated on the hill-side some 3000 ft. above the City in the Doi Pui National Park. En route up the mountain we stop for a short “Breakfast” coffee break before visiting The Temple itself (before all the crowds arrive !!). From the Temple Grounds there are panoramic views over Chiangmai and the surrounding area. On our descent we have lunch at a local restaurant, after which we return to the Resort where the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.
Guides & Vehicles will also be available for your to explore in & around Chiangmai City.
This evening we have a Special Hosted Dinner.

I think that’s about it for now… so until the next letter
